Rev. Lewis Hicks, age 97, of McGuffey, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Burton Ridge Assisted Living, Lima (10 years and 1 day after his beloved wife, Sarah).
He was born on May 11, 1929 in Mousie, Kentucky to the late Timothy and Ida (Hicks) Hicks. On June 25, 1949 Lewis married Sarah Ellen Keen and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2016.
Lewis retired from Ford Motor Company of Lima, where he worked as an engine test operator and motor balancer from 1954 to 1988. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger and a member of the church board. Lewis has been a minister since 1973 in the Pentecostal Faith. He was a life member of the McGuffey Conservation Club. He was a member of the UAW Local Union #1219 of Lima. Lewis loved to hunt and fish.
He is also survived by his son, Elmer L. Hicks of Ada; a daughter-in-law, Paula (Gary) Steinke of Wapakoneta; two grandchildren: Scott Ellis (Melanie) Hicks and Jessica Sue (Steven) Gossard; six great grandchildren: Bradley Hicks, Caleb Hicks, Hope (Zach) Jenkins, Faith (Jaret) Hamrick, Joy (Caleb Reser) Gossard and Jacob Hicks; and four great-great granddaughters: Lily, Everleigh, Izzy and Addyson.
He was preceded in death by son, Ellis Lee Hicks; five sisters: Roxie Keen, Infant Cora Hicks, Nora Ramey, Delcia Cox and Shirley Wells; and a brother, Rush Hicks.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 15, 2026 at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Alger with Rev. James Gatchell officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger with graveside military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Ada VFW Post #9381.
Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Alger and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Interim Hospice, 3745 Shawnee Road, Lima, Ohio 45806.
