Obituary

Loralee (Stiefelmayer) Smith, 93, of Ada Ohio, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 17, 2023.  She didn't know a stranger, and anyone who met her, knew they had just gained a friend with her beautiful smile.

Born June 17, 1930, in Dayton, OH, she was the daughter of Eugen and Anna Maria (Beck) Stiefelmayer. She married Gene Smith on April 14, 1951, Dayton.

She is survived by her husband Gene, her children Brenda, Wade, Sheila (Rob) and Sylvia (Todd) along with 3 granddaughters, Katie, Hannah and Sophie.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Marie Stiefelmayer and brother, Eugen Stiefelmayer.

It was at Miami Jacobs College in Dayton where she met the love of her life, Gene. They were married in Dayton 72 plus years ago.  They began their life together in Coldwater, Ohio where they lived and started their family until moving to Ada, Ohio in 1967.  Anyone who knew them together saw the love in their eyes each time they looked at each other.

Lora worked in the Controller's Office at Ohio Northern University and then transferred to the Pettit Law Library where she retired from in 1989.

Gene and Lora shared a love of travel participating in several organized excursions and traveling regularly to Kiawah Island, SC and London, England to visit their grandchildren.

Loralee was active in many organizations over the years.  She was a Brownie/Girl Scout leader, belonged to The Clef Club and was an avid doll collector.  With her beautiful voice, she sang in the United Methodist Church choirs where she was also a member of the United Methodist Women's, Dorcas Circle.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing, especially for her granddaughters.  Her sewing was meticulous, but she always wanted to improve.  She even took classes into her 70's.

She loved music and dancing of all kinds. From Waltzes and German Polkas to Square Dancing with Gene and the Hix-n-Chicks.

She will be loved and will be dearly missed.  However, we will all be comforted with our wonderful memories.
