October 7, 1935 – February 14, 2021
John K. Kearns, age 85, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his residence in McGuffey.
He was born on October 7, 1935 in Hardin County, Ohio to the late William and Helen (Ridgway) Kearns. On December 27, 1958 John married Janet P. Risner and she survives in McGuffey.
John retired from the B&O Railroad where he worked as a brakeman. He later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the Roundhead VFW Post #8832 and the Kenton Moose Lodge #428. John was a hard working and dedicated family man. John had a passion for sports and enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids compete in numerous sporting events throughout the years. The only thing as unwavering as his support, was his post game advice.
Also surviving are his three children: Sandy Castle of Ada, Jimmy (Stephanie) Kearns of Stewart and Jason Kearns of Newtown; eight grandchildren: Lucas Castle, Jordan (Holly) Castle, Heath Castle, Katie (Alex) Wiseman, Kellie (Josh) Adkins, John "JK" Kearns, Max Kearns and Lauren Kearns; great grandson, Cooper; and two sisters: Etta Smith of Lewisburg and Lorna (Paul) Tripp of Lewisburg.
John was preceded in death by six siblings: Madeline Keel, Merle Kearns, Richard Kearns, Pete Kearns, Robert Kearns and Raymond Kearns.
Attendance will be restricted at the funeral and visitation based on space to accommodate social distancing requirements. Face coverings must be worn while attending visitation and service.
A memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the McGuffey Church of Christ, 203 Columbus Street, McGuffey, Ohio with David Holbrook officiating.
Friends may call from one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the McGuffey Church of Christ, 203 Columbus Street, McGuffey, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the USV Athletic Boosters.
