Obituary

Jack D. Marshall, age 84, went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 27, 2014 at 2:55 PM at the Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, Ohio, in the presence of his family. He was born on August 14, 1930 in Hardin County, Ohio to Holland "Dutch" and Mary (Basden) Marshall who preceded him in death. On July 26, 1953 he married Miriam Jones and she survives. They had been married for over 61 years. Jack was a lifelong farmer, worked for 11 years at Proctor and Gamble in Lima, was a substitute mail carrier for Alger, and was a bus driver for Upper Scioto Valley Local Schools. He graduated from Alger High School in 1948 and was class valedictorian. He was an active member of Alger First United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, church board member, and a member of Methodist Men. He also served 12 years on the school board for Upper Scioto Valley, served on the Hardin County Fair Board, and was a member of the USV Lions Club. In the 1950's he tried out for the Cleveland Indians and was a talented fast pitch softball player. He enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes and watching his children and grandchildren in their sports and extracurricular school activities. Also surviving are 3 sons: Steven (Martha) Marshall of Bellefontaine, Bryan (Colleen) Marshall of Ada, and Bruce (Jolene) Marshall of Elida; a daughter, Melissa Sutton of Ada; 9 grandchildren: Katie (Kyle) Davis of Bellefontaine, Matt (Emily) Marshall of Ft. Wayne, IN, Karen (Kyle) Manko of Ft. Thomas, KY, Zach (Hannah) Marshall of Madison, WI, Andy Marshall of Windermere, FL, Amy Marshall of Elida, Gabe Sutton, Morgan Sutton, and Meredith Marshall all of Ada; 4 great-grandchildren: Samantha Marshall, Ramona Marshall, Maggie Marshall, and Boone Davis. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Alger First United Methodist Church with Rev. Calvin Waugh, Rev. Andrew Burns, and Rev. Timothy Benjamin officiating. Friends may call 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alger First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
